Professional Growth and Development Opportunities:

Under the guidance of Daniel Gilligan, Deputy Division Director, the intern will join the Poverty, Health, and Nutrition Division (PHND) part-time to provide research support to the USAID-funded Strengthen PSNP4 Institutions and Resilience (SPIR) Development Food Security Activity (DFSA) and activities under the GIZ-funded project Disruptions and Development of Value Chains in Ethiopia During COVID-19. The internship provides the opportunity to develop the following skills within the context of an international research and development organization:

Experience working on a cluster randomized control trial with a complex randomization design

Exposure to graduation model social protection programing

Experience supporting research using household survey data

Provide research support for the final report and workshop of the SPIR evaluation

Assist with finalization of questionnaires for household and market surveys in Green Innovation Center beneficiary communities

Track updates to paper questionnaire for consistency with CAPI

Support the planning and design of formative research and pilot studies for the SPIR II RFSA

Assist with exploratory analysis of SPIR evaluation data or other relevant datasets on select topics

Master’s student enrolled in Economics program or related field

Research experience in development economics, nutrition or a closely related field

Familiarity with quantitative or qualitative research methods 

Ability to work independently and as a member of a larger team

Fieldwork experience conducting research in a developing country context

Proficiency using Stata or other statistical analysis software package

Start Time: Flexible workday upon agreement with supervisor

End Time: Flexible workday upon agreement with supervisor

This position is based in Washington, DC, with a remote/virtual option consideration within the United States
