The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks to hire a highly motivated, energetic, and data-oriented Research Analyst for a full-time one-year, renewable appointment in the Nutrition, Diet, and Health Unit (NDH). The selected candidate will work closely with senior researchers in the unit, and with nutrition policy and research partners. The position will include engagement in quantitative research to support policy efforts on nutrition and health in India, and assisting with the development and implementation of a nutrition coverage survey in India and Ethiopia. Job duties will include conducting quantitative data analysis, conducting literature reviews including policy and program reviews, and assisting in the preparation of reports and journal manuscripts. The position will provide exciting opportunities to gain first-hand field experience and participate in conducting high quality and rigorous evaluations.
The position will be based in New Delhi, India and is renewable based on performance and funding. Interested applicants must have work authorization to work in India and must be willing to actively support work in partnership with policy counterparts.
The final grade level will be determined by level of education and years of relevant work experience.
Conducting quantitative data analysis of large household survey data sets on nutrition and health.
Organizing, cleaning, and analyzing primary survey data.
Assisting with the design and development of survey instruments and protocols.
Travelling to survey locations to support enumerator training, field team monitoring, and meetings with project partners and collaborators.
Contributing to literature reviews, project reports, research papers, and other deliverables, including preparing tables and graphs, and drafting report/paper sections.
Supporting activities related to communications and knowledge products (stakeholder consultations, writing blogs, preparation of research and policy briefs).
Providing research and analytical support for workshops and conferences.
Co-ordinating with and managing national and international partners and collaborators involved in the projects.
Research Analyst I: Bachelor’s degree plus two years of relevant professional experience or Master’s degree in economics, agricultural and applied economics, public policy, nutrition, or a closely related field
Research Analyst II: Master’s degree in one of the above fields plus minimum three years of post-master’s relevant experience
Experience using statistical software packages, especially Stata.
Demonstrated experience working with large survey data sets such as DHS, NFHS or NSSO and/or administrative data from programs.
Ability to multi-task, work efficiently and independently, and consistently meet deadlines.
Strong interpersonal skills and cross-cultural sensitivity.
Demonstrated professional level of attention to detail and accuracy of work.
Willingness and ability to travel internationally, including to rural areas to conduct fieldwork and supervise primary data collection.
Prior work experience with researchers and research organizations in India and/or Ethiopia.
Familiarity with health, nutrition, social protection, or livelihoods programs.
Experience in survey design, questionnaire design, and conducting and supervising household surveys in developing countries.
Fluency in written and spoken Hindi or other South Asian languages, including Bangla.
Employee will sit in an upright position for a long period of time.
Employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing computer terminal; extensive reading.
